Chromebook Adaptive Charging aims for big gains in battery life

Chrome OS is specifically designed to meet users who mainly rely on online tools to complete most of the work on their PC. Because of this web-first approach, Chromebook is often enough with minimal hardware, which helps them reach extraordinary battery life. Now, Chromebook is expected to accept features from Google’s pixel ranks to help them reach longer and healthier battery life.

Computers that run on Google Chrome OS will receive adaptive charging from pixel devices, 9to5google reports. Adaptive charging allows a smartphone pixel to intentionally slow down the speed of charging when the smartphone is plugged into the wall socket overnight. It is reduced by charging, as you would expect, help minimize the heat generated during filling and increasing battery life and preventing the danger of fire due to excessive heating.

According to the new code reference seen by 9to5Google in Chromium Git, adaptive charging will learn about user habits using machine learning to determine the speed of charging for Chromebook. However, it is not like on a pixel device where the adaptive charging sets the level of charging for the battery to reach 100% closer to your daily alarm, this feature will optimize the speed of charging according to your usual daily work routine. Along by optimizing the speed of charging, Chromebook will also display notifications when active adaptive charging.

However, the code, does not show which Chromebook will get the feature. Because adaptive charging on android is exclusively available on pixel devices, 9to5Google also signaled the possibility of this feature limited to Google’s own Pixelbook lineup or other chromebook tensor-powered in the future. We have to wait until after the feature is available on Chrome OS to find out more.

Adaptive charging is very useful for Chromebook because we often make our laptops constantly connect to the power socket while working. With more work from home and estimate the limit between work and personal life, sustainable laptop charging can destroy battery health.

Most modern devices use lithium-ion batteries (Li-ion) and excessive heat generation when charging can not only reduce their age but can also cause failure including disaster explosions, as determined in this research paper. The Li-ion battery is very unstable in a state of droplets (when the battery capacity is closer to 100% and the battery quickly switches between charging and usage status), and upcoming updates will try to reduce the time spent by the user when the battery at or around 100% cost.

This is one reason why Giants smartphones include Apple and Samsung deliberately limit themselves to slower charging speeds on their devices while brands such as Oneplus and Xiaomi compete to offer the fastest charging solutions on their devices.
